Adjuvant chemotherapy is a name that was introduced for the treatment of micrometastatic deposits of solid tumors by chemotherapy. The term neoadjuvant therapy was originally introduced by Frei to describe chemotherapy treatment of primary solid tumors too extensive for surgical ablation [1]. As the term adjuvant (meaning assistant) was an unfortunate choice that has become entrenched, the prefix neo(meaning new) was challenged by others who would prefer protoadjuvant (protomeaning first) therapy.
