Resumo: A Legislação, a literatura e o Programa do Desporto Escolar (PDE) traduzem uma aprovação de prin- cípios fundamentais relativos ao acesso à prática desportiva como complemento curricular, de todas as crianças e jovens, atribuindo ao Desporto Escolar (DE) um papel preponderante na integração social.Contrariamente a esta perspectiva, o DE -que poderia e deveria constituir um meio privilegiado de acção educativa- traduz-se numa práti- ca selectiva. Quem exerce a sua actividade docente nas nossas Escolas facilmente percebe o escasso número de alu- nos com Necessidades Educativas Especiais (NEE) inserido no DE. Assim, o objectivo principal do nosso estudo é identificar, na perspectiva dos professores envolvidos no DE e dos alunos com NEE, os factores que inibem e os que facilitam a participação destes alunos no DE. A amostra deste estudo é constituída por 104 professores que aderiram ao Projecto do D E nas Escolas do En- sino Básico dos 2º e 3º Ciclos e Escolas Secundárias do Distrito de Viana do Castelo e por 169 alunos identificados com NEE pertencentes às referidas Escolas. Abstract: Legislation, literature and the School Sport's Programme (SSP) express an approval of fundamental princi- ples relating to the access to sportive practice as curricular complement, of all children and youths, attributing to School Sport (SSp) a preponderant role in social integration. Contrarily to this perspective, SSp - which could and should consti- tute a privileged mean of educational action - turns into a selective practise. However practises the teaching activity in our schools easily sees the short number of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in the SSp.Consequently, the pur- pose of this study is to identify, in the perspective of the teachers involved in SSp and of the students with SEN, the fac- tors that inhibit and those that facilitate the participation of these students in SSp. The sample of this study is composed by 104 teachers who adhered to SSP in schools of basic teaching from elemen- tary and secondary schools from the district of Viana do Castelo, and by 169 students identified with SEN belonging to the reported schools. To the data research we used two questionnaires. The investigation carried out by us as well as the obtained results allow us to show as main conclusions, among others, that: teachers professional education is considered insufficient in order to assure the participation of students with SEN in SSp; both teachers and students reveal lack of access to information about SEN in the SSP; the SSP and its implementation does not answer the motivations of students with special educational needs.
