Games have been used with the aim to simulate the reality and improve the learning process in engineering courses. A game which consisted in assembling coloured pens was applied to identify the characteristics and needs of the both production systems, the pull and the push. The post-graduated students simulated the assembly of 60 pens with different colours and the production strategies adopted were analysed concerning the definition of the batch size, the inventory management, the sequence of the tasks and its distributions to the assemblers and the lay out of the work stations. The students concluded that although the pull production system has more advantages, the planning process must be much more aware of the bottlenecks in the production process and the resources shortage in order to attend to the variations of the customers needs.
