Modeling and Simulation of Salt Gradient Solar Pond for Solar Thermal Electric Power Generation

This paper presents the modeling and simulation of Salt Gradient Solar Pond (SGSP). The energy balance equations for each zone have been used to develop the expression for temperature distribution of Non- Convective Zone (NCZ). Then this equation has been used to develop the equation for efficiency of the solar pond. The analysis is based on the boundary conditions at the interface between the zones and the matching conditions. The results are then obtained by computer simulation using C++ program. The effects of various parameters like depth of the solar pond, heat extraction rate, heat capacity rate on the temperature distribution have been developed. It has been found that the temperature distribution in NCZ is a strong function of operating parameters.
