The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of multicollinearity in two genetic models used to estimate additive and heterotic effects at birth, weaning and yearling weights. The age of dam class at calving, the additive direct and maternal genetic effects, and the direct and total maternal heterozygosis effects were included in the complete model. The reduced model differs from de complete model due the absence of additive maternal genetic effects. The diagnosis was obtained through the variance inflation factor method, condition number and eigen values. Both models detected the presence of multicollinearity for all the studied traits, despite the results being sensitive to the exclusion of variables of the model. In general, additive direct and maternal genetic effects and direct heterozigosis are involved in collinearity problems. Only the variables age of dam at calving and total maternal heterozigoses weren't envolved in any linear dependence.
