Major depression is one of the world's most prevalent psychiatric diseases. On the other hand, cardiovascular diseases are the first cause of death in Colombia, and epidemiologic observations lead to say that depression and cardiovascular diseases have a bidirectional relationship. The endothelium, with the production of nitric oxide, maintains the vascular tone, inhibits smooth muscle growth, white cell migration and adhesion and has an antiadhesive platelet effect. Therefore, low nitric oxide levels are related with endothelial dysfunction and with a higher cardiovascular risk. It is also well known that this gas has effects over the monoaminergic
