AbstractThis project aims to apply ortho-photo and SPOT-5 image for updating land use and land cover map in scale 1:25,000. Since the high resolution of ortho-photo ( 0.5 metres) and SPOT-5 ( 2.5-7.5 metres) can be quite accurate for land use mapping, therefore Land Development Department has initiated the updated land use and land cover map in scale 1:25,000. This data will be used and implemented for other natural resources survey, for example, soil survey and land use planning as well. For monitoring land use change between year 2000 and2007 the urban area has expanded,its vicinity along Phetchaburi river, agricultural land has also increased since the population growth demanded for cultivated land IntroductionConcept,of land use and land cover mapping,normally related to aerial photographs and satellite imagery as tools for discriminate the mapping,unit. However Remote Sensing and GIS also play important role for new methodology,for land use study. Ortho-photo and satellite imagery such as SPOT-5 has been used to map land use and land cover in Phetchaburi province. Equipment - Software Arc-GIS 9.2 and PCI-easipace - Topographic map scale 1:50,000 -GPS instrument -Vehicles -Cameras Materials - Ortho-photo taken on year 2000 resolution 0.5 metres - SPOT-5 imagery taken on year 2006 resolution 2.5 metres - Digital files of administration boundary ,,- Land,use and land cover map in year 2000
