A Fault-Tolerant Mechanism to Ensure Reliability of Computer Control Systems

In critical applications, the unpredictable occurence of failures generally results in deadline missing and consequently in an unacceptable situation. So, it becomes necessary to supply every computer control system with fault-tolerant sojiware that enables to gkantee an acceptable although degraded performance without needing m-hmediate human intervention. Here, the Deadline Mechanism inspired &the recovery block scheme is used to provide fault-tolerance i.e predictabiky and adaptativity. We show that it permits to determine as soon adpossible that a deadline is going to be missed and is able to cope dynamically with this exeption situation by implementing redundant soware. In this paper; we, describe how this mechanism can be easily implemented in a monoprocessor machine and then, we report results of sirmclating it.
