In the Normal-Mode-Inaction adaptive PID controller, the ability of the adaptive PID controller to overcome the effect of an unmeasurable load disturbance is improved by checking of the estimated crossover frequency from the beginning of the transient period to the end. The determination of the size of the transient period effects directly the performance of the controller. The detection of the transient period, however, is made by an extensive simulation study. In this paper we propose using fuzzy logic to determine .;he transient period. The error and the change in error of the system are used as the linguistic variables obtaining the modifying factor of the transient period. Simulation results demonstrate that the combinaticn of the control theory with the fuzzy set theory will give better performance of the control system.
