Utilizing surface plus internal measurements is feasible in impedance imaging applications where a limited number of invasive recordings are possible, such as when monitoring complete temperature distributions in tumors through changing conductivity pattems during hyperthermia cancer Lherapy. Results of transient heating experiments with uluasound applicators are shown where image reconstruction is performed with a finite eIement model using data obtained from an electrical impedance tomography (Em system. Temperature predictions were improved by approximately a factor of 2 when adding information from internal linear arrays, compared 10 surface electrodes alone.
