Precise estimation of the position and transmission power of the
primary user
is of great importance in
cognitive radio
(CR) networks. These information can help the secondary users to exploit the spatial resources better and reduce the interference with primary users. In order to find position of the primary users, we propose a new cognitive situated
received signal strength
(RSS) algorithm. Existing cognitive RSS algorithms are not precise enough, because they do not consider all practical factors that affect the estimation error. In our proposed cognitive RSS positioning algorithm we try to take account of all the error affecting factors, namely noise, shadowing and error in
path loss
exponent estimation. Simulation results show that our proposed algorithm outperforms the existing RSS algorithms in estimation accuracy by reducing the mean and variance of estimation error.
