In this paper, we propose a multicast scheme known as Transition Multicast Scheme (TMS) that is suitable for the network multicast services during the transition from IPv4 to IPv6. TMS has extended NATPT implemented in the edge router, which cooperates with Rendezvous Point (RP) of IPv6 domain for multicast communication between IPv4 and IPv6. In the process of communication, NATPT-router group acts as a joint to transfer multicast messages between IPv6 network layer members and IPv4 application layer members. We have simulated our scheme using the GT-ITM and the measurements show that TMS is effective in decreasing delay penalty, reducing link stress and balancing the load among extended-NATPT routers as well as serving for smooth transition for IPv6 multicast deployment.
